All three schools then performed in the finals competition before the opening of the Drums Along the Rockies event. Welcome to the Legacy High School Band Program. Legacy High School, located in Broomfield, Colorado - a suburb of Denver - is a public high school serving 2,000 students in grades 9-12. The Legacy High School Band program exists to give students a comprehensive musical education encompassing every aspect of instrumental music from Marching Band, to Jazz Band, to Musicals, to Concert Bands, to Winter Percussion, to Winter Guard, to Music Theory, to Music Performance, all the while focusing on important life skills necessary for becoming productive members of society and connoisseurs of music for life. |
The goals and expectations for each and every student within the band are very high. The program also encompasses a wide variety of skills, both musical and life long, while embracing high standards of competency for each individual student. Band should be an experience rather than an activity, and each student's experience should be one that remains with them for the rest of their lives. Each student should have the opportunity to experience music to the fullest extent as well as give them the opportunity to grow as individuals and gain the knowledge of working in an environment that fosters skills applicable to all their goals in life. The experience will also be fun and rewarding! |
The marching band participates in local parades, such as the Broomfield Days Parade and the Parade of Lights as well as competing in several marching festivals. The band has competed in the Colorado Bandmasters Association State Championships placing 3rd, 4th and 5th. In the 2006,2007, 2008, and 2009 CBA State Championships, the band won 1st Place in division 5A, earning awards for High Visual, High Music and High General Effect. They have also traveled to Bands of America (BOA) competitions, competing as a finalist. |
The Symphonic Band has consistently received superior ratings at Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) contests and most recently the Colorado Bandmasters Associations Regional and State Concert Band Competitions. |
The Jazz Bands have also been superior performers at the Mile High Jazz Festival and at the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Contest in Greeley. Jazz Band I was chosen to be a featured performer at Dazzle Jazz Club in Downtown Denver. |
The Winter Guard ensemble participates in competitions on the state and national levels. They have won first place in the Scholastic Open Class at the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association's (RMCGA) State Championships for the past five consecutive years.(2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) They have also competed on the national level at the Winter Guard International Championships, finishing 16th in the nation in 2006 and as Silver Medalist in 2009. |
The Winter Percussion ensemble has consistently improved since its' inception in 2002. After three years of participating as a Finalist in the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association State Championships, the percussion ensemble earned their first RMPA State Championship in 2006 and followed it with another Scholastic Open State Championship in 2007 and 2009 |
